Donor Highlight: Doug and Linda Ruch

In Leadership, Story of the Week

Ask anyone who knows Doug and Linda Ruch, and they will tell you that this couple is not only warm and inviting to anyone they encounter, but that they truly seek to help others in any way that they can. And for nearly fifteen years, Doug and Linda Ruch have been helping reach children with hope through Kids Hope USA.

In 2002, Doug and Linda felt called to mentor a child through their church’s Kids Hope USA program. They felt that this was an opportunity to act out one of the great commandments to “love our neighbor,” in a very tangible way.

“Virgil (KHUSA Founder), made a compelling case for the effectiveness of Kids Hope USA on at-risk children,” said Doug, “Kids hope USA is a way to build a relationship with our students and to provide them with help and encouragement that they need – it’s very rewarding work.”

In 2006, Doug volunteered to help with a Kids Hope USA fundraising campaign alongside the board chair at the time, Michael Volkema. Their efforts resulted in growth that helped reach hundreds of additional children through the next two years.

Doug was brought on as a formal Kids Hope USA Board Member in the fall of 2013, and in 2014 took on the role of Board Chair. His experience as the former CEO of Fleetwood Group, an electronics and furniture manufacturing company, and long standing relationship with Kids Hope USA as an organization has made him an incredible asset in the efforts to reach more children throughout our Nation.

In addition to the time invested into Kids Hope USA, Doug and Linda are incredibly faithful financial supporters of the mission:

“As Christ followers, we believe we have a key responsibility to be generous with our resources, especially to those in need,” said Doug. “Organizations like Kids Hope USA, who are doing such vital work for children, will cease to exist without financial support. We resonate with Kids Hope USA’s mission and are convinced that the model is highly effective.”

The kindness that the Ruch’s have shown to Kids Hope USA over the last several years has helped insure thousands of children across the United States have received hope through a Kids Hope USA mentor. Because of their kindness, new programs have been able to launch, reaching children that desperately needed hope and encouragement. Thank you, Doug and Linda, for all that you have done and continue to do for our Nation’s children through Kids Hope USA.

Doug and Linda have been married for 37 years. They have three sons; Dustin (Allison), Mitch, Bryant and a grandson, Dillon. They are eagerly anticipating the arrival of a second grandchild in March.

Doug recently retired from a business career and now teaches at his alma mater, Hope College, where he also serves on the Board of Trustees. Linda is a volunteer at City on a Hill, the non-profit building that Kids Hope USA’s National Office resides in, in Zeeland, MI.

Financial donors are so important to all nonprofit organization! My name is Lisa Stafford and I am a new KHUSA director. Our church has been in involved with KHUSA for 5 years with tremendous success!

I also enjoy fund raising! What groups do I contact in my community to ask for financial support for KHUSA? The City Council? The Rotary Club? The Optimist Club?

Of course our church provides financial support, but it’s always good to have wider community “buy in”.

    Thank-you for your time.
    In the Joy of Jesus,
    Lisa Stafford
