Baseball Cards

I am stealing this idea from a sweet young boy named Carson, so a special thanks goes out to my friend in Missouri! You can connect learning math skills with something that most boys are interested in…baseball cards! Simply buy a few packs of inexpensive cards and divide them between you and the child you mentor. Then, play a game that is similar to the classic card game, “WAR”. Each player turns over a card and looks to determine how many homeruns the listed player has hit during their career. Whoever has the highest number gets to keep both cards. Adapt this game using any of the statistics on the back of a card. You could also practice sequencing by arranging the cards in order, classifying cards according to teams or color of uniforms, or write a letter to one of the players. I hope you hit a HOMERUN with your child with this activity!
