All In

For those of you who are not familiar with the poker channel, the expression ALL IN refers to the bet an individual makes when they chose to put their entire nest egg into betting on just one hand of cards being the winning hand.  In Chapter 5, Chan challenges us with the following; “By now you’ve probably realized that you have a distinct choice to make, just let life happen, which is tantamount to serving God your leftovers, or actively run toward Christ.”  He goes on to point out that the Bible is our best source to study the lives of those who gave themselves wholeheartedly to following God.   Moses, Abraham and Paul to name just a few.  What would our life look like if we were completely sold out to Jesus?  He says, “Having faith often means doing what other see as crazy.  Something is wrong when our lives make sense to unbelievers.”  We often question whether we are capable of doing what Bible saints did.  We often forget that we serve the same God they did and the power comes from God, not us.

So what are our marching orders?  Jesus said by loving the least of these, we are loving God.  Chan suggest we ask ourselves the question, “What am I doing right now that requires faith?”  If you struggle with an answer to this, ask God to show you where He wants to lead you and when He answers, step out in faith.  Next week we’ll talk about what it really looks like to be sold out for Jesus.
