Chan suggests that the Christian life requires that we surrender everything for Christ. Christ died so that we would change. We must let him do that. By giving up self, what do we gain?
1. We are able to love God and others in a deeper way.
2. We gain a love relationship with the God who created the universe, laughter, and me.
3. Sacrificing for others brings the greatest joy in life.
Since giving ourselves up is not natural, Chan suggest the following prayer;
“Jesus, I need to give myself up. I am not strong enough to love You and walk with You on my own. I can’t do it and I need You. I need You deeply and desperately. I believe You are worth it, that You are better than anything else I could have in this life and in the next. I want You. And when I don’t, I want to want You. Be all in me. Take all of me. Have your way with me.”
This prayer of recommitment could be life changing for all of us.
