It’s time to talk turkey! Turn this simple art project into a creative writing lesson by asking your child to imagine what a turkey might be saying or thinking. If you aren’t brave enough to paint with your child, simply trace their hand on a piece of brown construction paper. Google eyes make the project even more fun for a child. If you think your child is too old for this project, think again! By adding the creative writing component to this you will engage older students. You could also suggest that they “disguise” their turkey so it doesn’t get shot by the hunters. I have seen students create super hero costumes, baseball uniforms, clown outfits and all sorts of other creative disguises as they have worked on this project. One more suggestion.. so this can be a project that you work on together, don’t forget to create your own turkey! After all, everyone needs a friend to talk to….even turkeys! Gobble, gobble!
