Fall Symmetry Craft

Here’s a math lesson, craft and activity all rolled up in ONE! First, take a walk with your mentee and let them collect a handful of leaves. Then, talk about a math concept called SYMMETRY. A shape has symmetry when one half of it is the mirror image of the other half. Talk about the symmetry of the leaves you collected and look for other objects that are symmetrical. Then, cut each of the leaves in half and glue them on to a piece of construction paper. Your mentee can then finish the symmetrical design by drawing the other half of the leaves, doing their very best to make it a mirror image.
